Should I choose a RaQ or a standard UNIX
server? It really depends on what your
goals are as an administrator. If you don't know UNIX really
well and are going to want to make lots of changes to your
server over time, the RaQ is definitely the way to go. If you
are an advanced UNIX user, know exactly what you want, and
want the fully power and flexibility of UNIX, you should
contact AlwaysOnline.net at 800-699-9748.
In addition, if you are a reseller of virtual
domains, the RaQ may very well be the best option for you.
Not only is it easy for you to administer, but you can even
give your users a "control panel" to administer their own
accounts...this could be a priceless value-added service that
differentiates you from other resellers.
How many virtual domains can I host on a
RaQ?
The RaQ currently accommodates up to 220
IP addresses, so it is only possible to host 220 virtual
domains per RaQ.
Does the RaQ support IP-less domains?
Yes. The RaQ now supports IP-less
domains (name based hosting).
What type of processor does the RaQ
use?
The RaQ uses an x86 Intel
compatable processor.
Am I allowed to resell accounts on this
box? Can I resell entire RaQ´s too? Of
course! Reselling accounts is one of things that the RaQ is
made for. If you plan to resell RaqShaq Raq Servers, contact us ant 800-699-9748 for details about the
RaqShaq.com Partners Program and earn a commission for each
server you sell!
Is the setup really as easy as you claim?
I really don't know much about server setup and
administration.
Yes, it is really that easy.
Administration is done entirely through a web browser and is
as simple as pointing-and-clicking. All our RaQ servers come
with both a print
manual and online tips, not to mention the
personalized support RaqShaq.com is known for.
What kind of support will I get from you should
I need it?
You are
welcome to ask your account representative any questions you
have about your RaQ server. If you require the services of an
authorized technician, you will be subject to our normal
hourly support rates. The great part of the RaQ server plan
from RaqShaq.com, however, is that you will probably never
need any support at all. But if you anticipate a need for
technical support on a regular basis, please consider
purchasing one of our Advanced Support Programs These options
provide significant savings over our standard hourly support
rates.
Can I run my own name server (DNS)?
Yes you can. The RaQ comes with DNS
software so all you need to do is follow the instructions and you
can setup your own name server in a few simple steps. RaqShaq.com
will do both primary and secondary name service for a nominal
charge of $5 setup per domain (first 8 dns setups are free!)
if you prefer not to run your own
name server.
Will RaqShaq.com run my primary and/or secondary
DNS if I want them to?
Yes. All RaqShaq.com
dedicated servers include primary and secondary DNS service. Or
if you choose to run your own DNS, RaqShaq.com can even provide
tertiary name service.
Is
the RaQ secure? As with any
dedicated server, the Cobalt RaQ is only as secure as you make
it. If you, as an administrator, practice reasonable
precautions with regard to access permissions and passwords, the RaQ is a
perfectly secure solution. If you would like to
take advantage of RaqShaq's SecureRaq security system, please contact RaqShaq
for more information.
Can my
RaQ dedicated server run secure sockets layer
(SSL)? Yes. Cobalt offers an SSL solution
built specifically for the RaQ microserver. You will still
need to buy a certificate from either Verisign or Thawte,
however.
Does the machine have
typical Linux applications installed? Yes, the RaQ comes with applications
such as Pico, Emacs, Pine, SSH, FTP, Nslookup, whois,
SSH, etc.
Will I have ssh and ftp access? What
about root access? Absolutely. This
is your dedicated server and you will have full root access.
You can ssh into your box whenever you wish. Setting up FTP
accounts is as easy as adding users. You have complete and
sole control over your dedicated server. Incoming Telnet Connections
are blocked due to the insecure nature of this protocol. SSH works just
as well if you have never used it before, and it is much more secure. If you
need help with SSH, please let us know.
Can I give out FTP and/or shell accounts? Yes. Since you are the
sole administrator of your dedicated RaQ server, you can
create and delete account whenever and for whomever you
wish. However it is highly recomended to not give out any shell accounts (except your own) as it is a major
security risk.
What web server is installed? Apache 1.3.3
What version of Perl is installed? Perl 5.004
Can I run CGI programs from anywhere on this
machine? Yes. There is no bin-bin
directory because scripts can be run from anywhere on the
RaQ.
Does the RaQ support Microsoft FrontPage
Extensions? Yes, FrontPage extensions are
supported by the RaQ 4 and come installed, however, to take advantage of all of the components
available in Frontpage 2002 you must order a Raq 550.
Will I get a discount from RaqShaq.com if I
lease more than 1 RaQ? Yes. If you decide that
you would like to lease more than one RaQ dedicated server, we
can offer you the a discount.. In addition, depending on the
configuration, we may be able to offer you a recurring monthly
discount. Please contact us for
details.
Does RaqShaq.com perform installations of fixes,
patches, and OS upgrades when they become available from
Cobalt Networks? Yes, the
RaqShaq utilizes the Cobalt Control Station to keep our
Dedicated Raqs upto date. However, RaqShaq.com must have
administrator access to the server to complete these tasks.
If RaqShaq does not have access we will not apply patches
to your server.
Can I add domains, users, and email accounts
manually without using the web browser? Yes, but you will not be able to
use any of the web interface tools again and you will void the
Cobalt warranty. The rule of thumb is that anything that you
can do through the web interface MUST be done through the web
interface. If you try to add and delete virtual domains
manually, you will most likely break all the web-based
administration tools.
