How do I add a POP account?

After creating a virtual site, you can add or remove users for that site, and assign a site administrator. From the Server Management screen, follow these steps to add a site user and/or site administrator:

  1. Click Site Management.
  2. Click the modify icon for the site to which you want add a user.
  3. Click Add User.
  4. Enter the information for the user. Enter the user's name and password, set a total disk space allocation for the user, enable telnet or "shell" access (if appropriate), make them a site administrator (if appropriate), and enable a FrontPage user web (if appropriate). You can also enter e-mail aliases for this user.
  5. Click Confirm New User.

How do I set up my RaQ server to "catch all" e-mail addressed to a certain domain, ie., anyname@my_site.com?

It is possible to create a user which will catch all mail for a given domain. When you create a user you can specify a list of e-mail aliases for that user. By omitting the username from the full e-mail address the user will catch all e-mail for that domain. For instance if you create a user named "johndoe@foobar.com" and you want all mail for the "foobar.com" domain to go to this user's account, you would add an alias like this:

@foobar.com

Now all mail for this domain will go to the "johndoe" user along with all mail actually addressed to johndoe@foobar.com.

How do I configure my e-mail client to send/receive e-mail from my domain?

This field specifies what IP addresses, hosts or domain names are allowed to use the SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server on your RaQ. SMTP is disabled by default on Cobalt RaQ servers to minimize the dan gers of new server owners being unwittingly abused by unauthorized SPAM or unsolicited bulk e-mailers.

How do I send a test message to an account on my Cobalt RaQ before my domain settings and DNS are in place?

E-mail is normally accessed by the DNS name. Otherwise, you can send e-mail to a username, enclosing the IP address with square brackets, as follows:

username@[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]

Also, make sure that the IP of domain name is in the "Relay E-mail" field.

How do I configure my e-mail software client to send/receive e-mail from my domain?

You must configure your e-mail application (POP mail client software) to send and retreive e-mail from the RaQ2.

Make sure the following is entered into your e-mail program:

  1. E-mail address. The format is: username@hostname.domainname
  2. SMTP server. This is the "send" server setting with the format being: hostname.domainname (eg. raq1.RaqShaq.com)
  3. POP3 server. This is the "incoming" server setting with the format being: hostname.domainname (eg. raq1.RaqShaq.com)
  4. IMAP Server. This is an alternative "incoming" server setting. Same format as above for POP3.

Relay Error

If you are receiving messages about the mail server not relaying e-mail messages, check the e-mail parameters.

Go to the Server Management page, and click on Control Panel, and then select Services along the top of the resulting page. Look for the Parameters link for the e-mail server. There you will find the field, "Relay e-mail from these hosts/domains". Make sure that the correct IP/domain name is specified in the field. Include the domain name if it is not listed there already.

Using Another Mail (SMTP) Server

You may want to have another server handle your e-mail.  After you set up virtual host (or the main server) go into the controlpanel and click on DNS server parameters.  Select the domain you want to configure mail for.  Then select "Mail Server (MX) Record" from the pull down menu on the right.
